From AI image to pattern

Was your design born in Midjourney, DALL·E or Stable Diffusion? A pattern maker can turn it into a real graded pattern — as long as you give them what an image doesn't contain.

An image is not a pattern

A generated image shows an appearance, not a construction: it shows no seams, no measurements, not always the back — and it sometimes invents drapes or fastenings that can't be sewn.

The pattern maker's job is to translate that appearance into flat pieces that fit together: they choose the seams, the ease and the grain line, then grade the pattern into your sizes.

What to prepare

  • A front view and a back view of the same garment — ask your tool for them explicitly, or have the back redrawn.
  • A side view or close-ups for the details: collar, pockets, fastenings.
  • The base size and, if possible, a measurement chart or a reference garment that fits you.
  • The intended fabric, or at least: knit or woven, with or without elastane.
  • The sizes to grade and what the garment is for: everyday, sport, stage…

The steps

  1. 01

    You post your images

with the brief: category, sizes, fabric, measurements. The price shows before you pay.

  2. 02

    A verified pattern maker accepts

they see your images and brief; your payment is held by the platform.

  3. 03

    They interpret and draft

they flag anything that can't be sewn as it is and suggest a solution, in the brief's conversation.

  4. 04

    You approve on the render

3 revisions included; the graded pattern, the workshop file and the tech pack are handed over when you approve.

  5. 05

    You produce

with the factory of your choice, or a factory on the platform, in small runs.

Good to know

  • The pattern maker interprets: a detail the image doesn't show (the inside of a pocket, the underside of a collar) is built the way the trade does it, and you see it on the render before you approve.
  • A detail that can't be sewn is flagged, not ignored: you choose the solution.
  • The assembly guarantee covers construction defects for 30 days after approval — not design changes.

Rights to the image

You must have the right to use the image you post: check the terms of the tool that generated it, and don't reuse someone else's protected work in it. The pattern itself is yours once you approve and pay.
